Bolsover protesters win round one of toxic waste battle

"WE'VE WON the first round but need to carry on until this toxic site is cleaned."

That was the mood of 500 local people in Bolsover on 5 February, demonstrating in protest at a planning application for a new waste disposal plant on the heavily polluted Coalite site.

Days before the march the local paper splashed the news - the company had withdrawn its application! Apparently they decided the site was not suitable.

A 1,400-signature petition and 500 protest letters to the County Council, two public meetings each attended by over 200 people and this demonstration undoubtedly helped make Anglo United's corporate minds up.
