Fighting Fund Appeal
This war comes on top of the ever widening gap between rich and
poor both between and within different states. The three richest
people in the world own as much wealth as the poorest 600 million.
In London 1.65 million children live in poverty.
Despite that, Blair and this Labour government are increasing
their attacks on the public sector at the same time as finding the
millions to drop bombs on one of the poorest countries in the
world.
F35 fighter jet = £30 Million
The £30 million spent on one F35 fighter jet would be enough
to provide 1,500 extra teachers and / or nurses on decent rates of
pay. Ten cruise missiles at £1 million each would be enough to pay
for a new hospital wing.
On top of this the private sector thanks to Blair and Brown are
set to make rich pickings of £30 billion from the sell-off of the
public sector. Unsurprisingly this has created enormous anger. In a
recent poll in the Daily Mirror, 5 million voters have threatened to
desert Labour if public services don't improve.
War, starvation
As long as capitalism remains the world will continue to face
war, starvation and growing instability. The socialist
transformation of the planet is now more urgent than ever.
The resources are there for everyone in the world to have access
to decent affordable housing, clean water, good quality free
education and healthcare.
To achieve that we need to replace outworn and disintegrating
capitalism, where the main aim is profit and not need, with a new
world democratic socialist system.
300,000 strong demonstration
But workers in Britain and Internationally are fighting
back.
From the marvellous struggles in Argentina which has seen 7
general strikes in the last 20 months to the developing battles in
Italy, (including the 300,000 strong demonstration in Genoa and the
500,000 on the anti-war demo) which could shortly be culminating in
a general strike.
Socialist party
The Socialist party is playing a leading part in these
developments. From the year long battle in Hackney against council
cuts and privatisation to the support for the struggle of the
Coventry busworkers.
Most recently, the Socialist party has played a key role in
raising the Socialist Alternative within the ant-war movement. As a
result many people, especially youth, have been attracted to and
have joined the Socialist Party.
But to continue and extend this work we urgently need your money.
Our intervention in the two big anti-war demonstrations cost us
£2000. We haven't got the millionaire backers that all the major
parties have.
We rely on the many donations from ordinary workers to fund
our work. That is why we're urging every supporter to
rush us a donation.
