On 6 and 7 November more than a thousand people from every corner of the country will gather in central London for the Socialist Party's annual Socialism event.

Cindy Sheehan - the prominent US anti-war activist - will be one of the main speakers at the Saturday night Rally for Socialism.

Cindy shot to prominence in 2005 after camping outside of President Bush's Texas ranch following the death of her son - specialist Casey Sheehan - in Iraq.

Cindy is a vocal critic of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to this day, highlighting that little has changed in US foreign policy since President Obama took office.

In recent years Cindy has run for congress too.

In the wake of Lehman's collapse Cindy has become a critic of the free market and its disregard for human life - something she links to the foreign policy of the US and ultimately the death of her son.

Cindy has said that socialist ideas need to make a come back.

Cindy says:

"I believe that the wealth and resources of a region/nation belong to the people. I think industry should be in the democratic control of the workers.

"And I think ordinary people have a gut feeling that this is the only fair way to operate. Many people have lost their jobs, homes, and any kind of security that they had, and they see that the rich are getting richer, while the poor get poorer.

"I think the greatest advantage of having a high-profile Socialist presidential campaign is that we can educate people that they aren't alone and that they are not lazy or the problem.

"The problem is simply Capitalism - not 'crony Capitalism' or 'predatory Capitalism,' because Capitalism is inherently crony and predatory.

"The only goal is profit at any and all costs. Democratic socialism is the alternative."

Cindy will also be speaking in Dublin on 9 Nov and Athens on 11 Nov.

The Dublin and Athens rallies are being organised by the Committee for a Workers' International, the socialist international to which the Socialist Party is affiliated. www.socialistworld.net

'Socialism' is an annual event held each year, hosted by the Socialist Party. This year Socialism will be taking place at University London Union (ULU), Malet Street, Euston. The Rally for Socialism will be taking place on Saturday 6 November from 6:30pm at Friends Meeting House, Euston Road.

Other speakers at Socialism 2010 include Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary; Peter Taaffe, Socialist Party general secretary; Andros Payiatsos, Greek socialist and workers' leader; Janice Godrich, PCS president.

For a full programme of speakers, the full agenda and other details see www.socialism2010.net phone 020 8988 8779 or 07984 027754 or email socialism@socialistparty.org.uk
