Brazil welcomed Obama with the arrest of 13 protesters

The arrival of Barack Obama in Brazil was marked by the political arrest of 13 Brazilians who were protesting against his presence in the country. The 13 were arrested during a peaceful rally of 400 people in Rio de Janeiro (visited by Obama on Sunday 20th March).

The protest was called to denounce Obama´s visit as part of a process of surrendering Brazilian national resources (mainly oil) through the so-called ‘free trade’ agreements.

The participants of the rally were brutally assaulted by the police forces commanded by the state governor.
