Anti-Academy strike action in Birmingham
NUT, NASUWT and GMB members at Montgomery primary school in Birmingham took strike action on 13th December to protest against plans to turn the school into an academy.
There was a defiant mood on the 40-strong picket, with teachers and support staff joined by members of Birmingham Anti Academies alliance.
One teacher commented: "Why us? We've met the expected teaching standards for the past year. Staff are concerned about the lack of any guarantee of jobs and conditions if the school transfers from the local council to one of the new 'chain' schools"
