Government advisor condemns scrapping of EMA - YFJE says bring it back now!

Claire Laker-Mansfield, Youth Fight for Jobs and Education spokesperson said: "This response from Milburn, to a study on social mobility, is a vindication of what we have been saying all along.

"We knew that the scrapping of EMA would lead to a situation where those who are less well-off would miss out on the chance to stay on in education.

"Let's remember that these comments come from a man who is no friend of ordinary people. Alan Milburn was a minister in the New Labour government that got the ball rolling on the attacks on education we are now seeing.

"The fact that he's had to acknowledge the failings of these policies shows that the government's education 'reforms' are under attack from all directions.

"Two events coming up can be steps towards a renewed movement of youth. We will be mobilising for the TUC demo coming up this Saturday and for the NUS demo on 21st November.

"We will be sending a loud and clear message to the bosses and the politicians that we are ready for the fight of our lives."
