Eastleigh: Ex-Labour rebels back TUSC candidate
Vote Daz Procter!
Dave Nellist (former Labour MP) and Keith Morrell (Southampton Councillors Against Cuts) to speak in support of Daz Procter, TUSC candidate in the Eastleigh byelection
Eastleigh TUSC election rally - Tuesday 26th February, 7.30pm
Locomotive Engineers Club, 18 Station Hill, Southampton Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9FJ
For nine years, 1983 to 1992, Dave Nellist stood in parliament as a workers' MP on a worker's wage, refusing to leave behind the real day-to-day issues of those who elected him when he was surrounded by the privileges and perks of the Westminster elite. How does that compare with the sleaze and expenses scandals that have rocked all the main parties in recent times and that have sent their politicians' popularity plummeting in the polls?
In a sign of the direction Labour was heading, in 1992 Dave was expelled from the party for his national role in the All Britain Anti-Poll Tax Federation and his support for mass non-payment that led to the tax's demise along with PM Margaret Thatcher.
Keith Morrell and Don Thomas were expelled from Southampton Labour Party in 2012 for voting against cuts proposed by Southampton Labour council.
Keith and Don have continued to fight against all cuts, in defence of jobs and services, and call on Labour councils to refuse to implement the Con-Dem cuts.
The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition is an electoral alliance that stands candidates against cuts and privatisation. It is supported by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) and leading trade union representatives in the PCS, NUT and POA.
