Sri Lanka Appeal
IN SRI Lanka, 3,000 people have lost their lives as a three year-old ceasefire is falling apart. Senan gave an appeal for the United Socialist Party (USP – CWI Sri Lanka). The USP is the only group in Sri Lanka with a non-sectarian position, to unite Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslim people.
On 10 November, Tamil MP Nadarajah Raviraj was shot dead. Raviraj was in the Civil Monitoring Committee (CMC), which investigates the kidnappings and killings of Tamils. The CMC is chaired by Siritunga Jayasuriya, USP general secretary. Siritunga is now a prime target for the killers, and has received numerous death threats.
Senan said the USP needs international support and financial help, and asked everyone at the rally to send letters of protest.
