120 construction workers turned up for a Unite branch meeting at Conway hall yesterday evening. The hall manager wouldn’t let them in the meeting room because there were too many people for the room, so they met in Red Lion Square instead.

Anger is high against the way many construction workers are excluded from the payroll on sites, forced to be paid by agencies and umbrella companies who have – from 6th April – been deducting substantially more money from earnings. Demands to be included directly on the payroll of the building firms have broken out in ‘PAYE protests’ around the country.
