Lancaster University occupied – protest/support messages needed

By a Socialist Students member at Lancaster University

The protest started in Alexandra Square with around 30 people storming the entrance of the University House, the university’s admin office, in demand of free education. Staff were not asked to leave but decided to.

Security and staff are preventing students from using toilets or having access to water. Water and food have been brought to us from students outside through the window via rope.

We have been negotiating for hours with staff but they still wont allow us toilet access. They also say that if they leave the building they wont allow us back in.

We have been told that police have been called to arrest anyone occupying the office who isn’t a student for aggravated trespass. The police are outside.

Staff tell us that we are trespassing, although the campus office is available for students to access. Lancaster Uni’s regulations on protest say that students are allowed to protest as long as it is peaceful. The Students Union has issued a statement saying they support our action.
