US: Seattle gets a raise!

Workers celebrated in Seattle in the run up to 1 April when tens of thousands of workers received a pay rise.

This is a result of a huge campaign of strikes and protests by the lowest paid fighting for a $15 an hour minum wage – a struggle taken into the council chamber, where it was passed, by Socialist Alternative member Kshama Sawant.

Campaigners celebrated together and toured some of the low-paying workplaces to make sure workers were aware of what was happening.

Socialist Alternative is on the campaign trail again in the run up to Kshama being up for reelection in November. This time the campaign will focus on another key issue facing working class people in the city – housing costs.
