The 100% anti-austerity election broadcast – tonight!

Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition: the 100% anti-austerity election broadcast – tonight!

Tonight the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) will have its first party election broadcast transmitted across England, Wales and Scotland. The scheduling is:

BBC2 at 5.55pm, ITV 6.25pm, BBC1 6.55pm, C5 6.55pm and C4 at 7.55pm.

TUSC is fielding an historic working class challenge on 7 May. A coalition of trade unionists, working class campaigners, and socialists will stand in 135 seats, one in five parliamentary constituencies offering a 100% anti-austerity choice. TUSC is also standing in around 650 council seats.

This weekend every candidate and their teams of supporters will be out campaigning – a splash of TUSC pink in town centres across the country. A list of candidates, with contact details, and where to find them, is available on the TUSC elections website: www.tusc2015.com

Dave Nellist, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition national chair and former socialist Labour MP, said: “The ‘challengers debate’ centred on the question of austerity. Why? Everywhere it’s cuts, privatisation and falling living standards that are the main issue for people. A poll of 5,000 Manchester residents found that an end to the cuts is a key issue that will decide this election.

“But only one party standing in the May elections is committed to voting against all cuts. In fact we have been 100% against austerity from day one when we were co-founded by the late Bob Crow and socialists. Our candidates are on the frontline of the anti-austerity battle day in, day out – not just in elections – but in their workplaces and communities.

“That is my record as an elected representative in parliament and in Coventry council. We have 22 current or former councillors in the ranks of our challenge, many who have been expelled from Labour for fighting cuts.

“But the other distinguishing feature we have is that we reject the austerity lies and point to where the wealth in society is. TUSC’s election platform includes democratic public ownership of our NHS, railways, public services, utilities and banks. That makes us unique.”

Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition five-point pledge

1. End cuts and austerity. For a democratic socialist society run in the interests of the millions not the billionaires.

2. Trade union rights to fight low pay. £10 an hour minimum wage now, scrap zero hour contracts.

3. A mass council home building programme and immediate introduction of rent controls.

4. Scrap student fees. Free education as a right for all.

5. For democratic public ownership of our NHS, railways, public services, utilities and banks.

On the evening of 17 April the TUSC broadcast will go out across five channels. See the ‘No-cuts Off-cuts’ clip: https://youtu.be/EIZ56_C1t8Y
