Bromley Unite plans more sell-off walkouts

A Bromley Unite member

Bromley’s Tory council wants to privatise everything it can get away with, and withdraw all trade union facilities with immediate effect – but they’ve got a fight on their hands.

Unite members have so far taken ten days of strike action with more to follow. Transport services workers will strike from 13 to 18 May, followed by a branch-wide strike on 19 May.

Unite’s public campaign against library privatisation has won massive support from the community. Members in adults services are taking strike action to defend services for vulnerable adults.

Transport services are due to be handed over to a company set up and run by Labour Party dominated Greenwich council, GSPlus. Yet Labour councillors in Bromley have publicly opposed the privatisation plans.

  • Lobby Greenwich council to demand GSPlus pulls out of the privatisation process. 6-7pm, 13 May, Town Hall, Wellington Street, Woolwich SE18
  • Join the march through Bromley on 13 June. Assemble 12noon, 13 June Norman Park, Bromley Common, BR2
  • Support the mass picket on 19 May. 7.30-10am, 19 May, Civic Centre, Stockwell Close, Bromley
  • Please send messages of support to onay.kasab@unitetheunion and donations to Kathy Smith, Unite Office, Bromley Council, Civic Centre, Stockwell Close, Bromley BR1 3UH (cheques payable to Bromley Unite)
