Protesters tell Labour councils to fight Tory cuts

Chesterfield

Disability, school crossing and other anti-cuts campaigners marched alongside people from Rethink Mental Illness and Our Vision Our Future self-advocacy groups to fight Tory cuts that are passed on by the local Labour council.

Speakers, including disability campaigner Gary Mathews, highlighted how people most in need of public services are the ones being hit the hardest, with some disabled people being reassessed and losing their care packages altogether.

Barnsley

On 5 June, a demonstration at Barnsley Town Hall was held outside the first council meeting since the local elections. We were there to show we won’t tolerate any more Tory cuts imposed by Labour councillors.

Many organisations were represented including BFAWU food workers’ union, Barnsley Against Bedroom Tax and the Socialist Party.

We also had coverage from the BBC’s Sunday Politics programme.
