London demo of protest and anger at Suruc attack

The shocking news of the killing of 30 activists from the Socialist Federation of Youth Associations (SGDF) in an explosion carried out by an ISIS suicide bomber, resulted in an emergency demonstration being called in Haringey, North London on Tuesday, 21st July.

This demonstration was organised by various Turkish and Kurdish groups in solidarity with the young socialists murdered in Suruc, Turkey, by ISIS.

There was a rally outside Manor House tube station and an impromptu demonstration that marched towards Turnpike Lane station where there was another rally.

Around 1,000 people marched in protest at the killings and the Turkish government’s role in laying the basis for this attack.

It was a very lively demonstration. Passers-by and local people of the area were showing their support by applauding the passing demo and taking leaflets to get information about the horrendous attack.

Socialist Party members and Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition supporters participated in this event. We marched carrying our TUSC banner and Socialist Party members also carried CWI flags. We had produced 500 copies of a leaflet containing the statement of our sister organisation in Turkey, Sosyalist Alternatif, which we ran out of during the demo [for the statement see www.socialistworld.net].We also sold around 20 copies of our newspaper. Our members were welcomed to the platform and spoke in solidarity with the Kurdish people and against the massacre in Suruc.
