Kirklees
Divisive forgery shocks health campaign
Jackie Grunsell speaking at Socialist Party congress |
THE SAVE Huddersfield NHS campaign won a famous victory in last year's council elections in Kirklees council when local GP and Socialist Party member Jackie Grunsell was elected as a councillor for the Crosland Moor and Netherton ward.
Recently the campaign was shocked to discover that someone had been distributing forged leaflets in Jackie Grunsell's name. She was horrified and feels this is an attempt to discredit her and the Save Huddersfield NHS campaign before this year's local elections when they plan to stand another candidate in the ward.
"The leaflet is a copy of one we produced earlier this year for a public meeting," Jackie commented "but it has been altered to make it appear we are only interested in representing the Pakistani community in the ward.
"This divisive move completely misrepresents what the campaign and I stand for. We have always campaigned for the maximum unity, which we feel is essential to winning any fight to save public services. I have fought for all sections of our community in the ward since I was elected last year and intend to keep doing this.
"Whoever did this clearly wants to stir up trouble and create divisions between people in our community," Jackie said.
