Ken Douglas, Socialist Party national treasurer

The political earthquake caused by the Brexit vote means the Socialist Party has to be prepared for anything, including a general election. We have to step up our fundraising to make sure we have the funds to reach as many people as possible over the coming months.

We have raised our fighting fund target to £30,000 a quarter, from the beginning of July. The last two quarters have seen fundraising records smashed with over £39,000 raised before Christmas and over £36,000 in the first quarter of 2016. Now we are heading for a third record quarter in a row as we reach the end of the current campaign.

The Socialist Party has no rich backers, these magnificent totals have been achieved by the fundraising of our members and from the donations by working class people in response to our campaigning and appeals.

The Socialist is an independent voice of the working class; a voice which is largely excluded from the mainstream media, particularly in the debate on the EU referendum.

Capitalism means economic crisis, war, cuts, privatisation and attacks on our living standards, while the rich pile up unimaginable wealth. The Socialist Party has a vital part to play in raising a socialist alternative to the lies of the capitalist politicians on both sides of the EU debate.

But we urgently need your help. Our new target for the July to August quarter is £30,000 – can you raise some money to help our campaign or can you make a donation? We can guarantee that every penny will be used to build an alternative to the miserable future that the political establishment, and the millionaires and billionaires that they represent, want to force on us.
