West London Socialist Party: 70 years since partition of Indian subcontinent

Thursday 7th September 2017, 7.30pm

West London Trades Union Club, 33-35 High Street Acton, London W3 6ND

The partition of the Indian subcontinent in August 1947 saw the biggest recorded forced migration in history. Two million people died in sectarian violence and 12 million were displaced along religious lines. Was this scenario inevitable? Having broken the back of British rule, could the workers and poor of the subcontinent have moved history in a different direction, as their brothers and sisters in Russia had done in 1917? Come to hear about the events of 1947 from a socialist viewpoint.
