Support the Northern Ireland classroom assistants

CLASSROOM ASSISTANTS in Northern Ireland are continuing their strike action against attacks on their pay and conditions. Members of the union representing the majority of the workers, NIPSA, voted by 93.4% in favour of strike action.

In spite of a dirty tricks campaign by the employers, the strikes have been well supported by other workers and by parents, who have shown their support on the picket lines and on demonstrations. The workers are now striking for two days every week up to Christmas.

This is a crucial dispute for the whole of the public sector in Northern Ireland – a victory would be a victory for all public-sector workers but a defeat would open the door for more attacks from the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Please send messages of support to: Nipsa.517@seelb.org.uk and info@nipsa.org.uk, with copies to: socialistpartyni@btconnect.com

  • More than 70 medical secretaries, also members of NIPSA, are involved in strike action at Altnagelvin hospital, Londonderry. They are fighting an overtime ban.
