Union merger
Members of the Offshore Industry Liaison Committee (OILC) have voted overwhelmingly to merge with the rail and maritime union RMT. OILC members voted by 807 to 207 for a merger which was endorsed by a special general meeting of the RMT last March.
OILC was formed in the aftermath of the Piper Alpha disaster and has played an important role in fighting for safe working conditions on North Sea oil rigs.
