Support Francis Tienga Ngale

FRANCIS TIENGA Ngale is a Cameroonian asylum seeker, a member of Cameroon's main opposition party, Social Democratic Front and the Socialist Party. He is battling against deportation because of the dangerous conditions he will face if he is returned to Cameroon.

Mark Desgranges

According to the International Federation of Human Rights there have been 43 deaths in the main prison in Douala since January 2003.

Cameroon is ruled by the dictatorship of Paul Biya that persecutes members of opposition parties and democratic protests and is stepping up this persecution before elections expected this year.

Francis was arrested in 1992 and forced to flee in 1997 after police ransacked his room following his involvement in a peaceful march about the non-inclusion of people on the electoral register. The police attacked the march and two protestors were killed.

Since he came to Britain, Francis has been protesting against the Cameroonian government. That government's representatives have photographed him whilst protesting here and he will be a target if he is deported.

Francis made a new application for asylum in 1999. His local MP told him in May 2003 that his application had been passed onto the allocation unit. The Home Office rejected his new application in October 2003 without Francis' knowledge.

Francis has suffered appalling treatment. He was detained when he appeared for his weekly signing-on at Old Street Police Station, London on 4 January.

For three years Francis has been working at Parkside NHS Trust in Westminster and members of the health support team are campaigning with his solicitor to try and stop the Home Office deporting him.

The Home Office has tried to deport Francis twice but failed both times in part due to the protest faxes sent to the Home Office and Chief Immigration Officer. Francis is now detained at Haslar detention centre at Gosport, Hampshire and could be deported at any time.

Make sure Francis gets support otherwise he will face torture and possible death if he is deported to Cameroon.
