Collectathon...
We Need Your Cash!
COLLECTATHON FORTNIGHT got off to an excellent start last weekend with a collection of £717 at the Socialist Party Summer Camp.
Jane James, national treasurer
Following the inspiring rally on Latin America introduced by Peter Taaffe, Paula Mitchell appealed for donations by stressing the contribution we can make to revolutionary movements in Latin America.
We want to raise money so that a delegation of our young members can attend the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre in January 2005, to meet and discuss with the thousands of young people from Latin America who will be there.
Money is also needed to produce material for Freshers' Fairs, building for the International Socialist Resistance/ Socialist Students conference and launching our campaign against the attacks on the public sector.
Thanks to all who donated, particularly Chris Flood, Martin Reynolds and Dave and Eleanor from Basildon, who all gave £100.
Plans for the Collectathon include branches organising extra sales and activities, visiting supporters for donations, a sponsored hair-cut and allotment dig.
Manchester branch report that they've made "a brilliant start to the Collectathon fortnight. Our stall at Europride raised £280. A member organised a car-boot sale and made a personal donation, totalling nearly £100. We also have two social events planned in the next few weeks."
The Collectathon goes on until 12 September, so it's not too late for your branch to draw up plans. Please let the Socialist Party's finance department know about plans and results.
