Protest Against Low Pay
Friday 17 September
FRIDAY 17 September will be a day of action against low pay. Every week International Socialist Resistance (ISR) and Socialist Party members are meeting workers of all ages - but particularly young workers - who are fed up with low pay and the way they are treated in the workplace.

In London last Saturday, for example, we met a 16-year-old who was being paid £15 for a 10 hour day in a shop in Camden. Across England and Wales we have met low paid chefs, retail workers who have never had a pay rise in years, agency workers not even getting the minimum wage, overworked lorry drivers and more.
Many people are angry to hear about the pitiful £3 an hour 16 and 17 year olds will be entitled to from 1 October.
Now the colleges and schools are starting back, the issue of low pay doesn't go away. Many students have to work to help pay for transport and other living costs.
Many areas will be involved in taking action on 17 September and beyond. In Wales, we will be handing in petitions to the Welsh Assembly to show the support we have received campaigning against the lower minimum pay levels for young people and for a living minimum wage for all. We will also be lobbying the Welsh TUC to demand a stepping up of the campaign from the trade unions for a decent minimum wage.
In other areas, such as Sheffield, we will be protesting outside low paying shops. In some colleges, ISR members are going to ask the college trade unions to help organise discussions with students about joining trade unions and our rights at work.
More details of local actions will be available next week. If you would like to take part in these or help organise your own contact ISR.
