Fighting fund target smashed - again!
Congratulations to all the branches and members who helped raise a
huge £25,768 for the Socialist Party fighting fund in the first quarter
of 2006. This is 117% of our target - thanks to all our supporters who
donated.
Naomi Byron, National finance department
Unlike the three main parties of big business, we have no millionaire
backers. All the money we use to finance our campaigns comes from
ordinary working people, our members and supporters.
While Labour is offering businessmen breakfast with Charles Clarke or
Alistair Darling in return for 'donations' to the Labour Party,
Socialist Party members and councillors are fighting privatisation and
cuts in public services, offering a socialist alternative to the main
three parties. In recognition of this Socialist Party canvassers raised
£121.27 fighting fund last Sunday in Lewisham, including one donation
of £75 and another of £20.
Now that the new quarter is beginning, branches urgently need to make
plans to ensure we raise as much money as possible before 7 July, when
the quarter will end. Make sure you ask people for donations on the
doorstep, on stalls and in meetings. Look at different ways to raise
money - from sponsored events to social ones, like Tower Hamlets
branch's Mexican night, which raised £108.
Fighting fund planners are available from our national office.
