Crown Post Offices
MEMBERS OF the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) held a protest
outside the Swansea branch of WH Smith last week to highlight the threat
to jobs and services if the city centre Crown Post Office is closed and
franchised out.
Alec Thraves
This protest follows an earlier mass meeting, protest march and the
collection of over 10,000 signatures calling for the transfer to be
scrapped.
The mood amongst workers and the general public is one of extreme
anger at the Post Office's total dismissal of widespread opposition in
their so-called public consultation exercise.
The CWU are balloting their members for industrial action and calling
for a national boycott of W H Smith.
At its August meeting, Swansea trades council called on all trade
unionists to fully support the campaign.
