Home | The Socialist 7 December 2006 | Join the Socialist Party CDF online petition launched!Socialist Students has received a fantastic response from the Campaign to Defeat Fees online petition. In a matter of days, over 200 people have signed the petition from over 60 universities and colleges. Matt DobsonMany of them have contacted us to get campaigning materials and to find out about getting actively involved. Here are some quotes from students around the country. Jonathon from King's College London: "Education is being marketised - we need to fight back effectively, no token gestures. The NUS needs to recognise this and provide a lead for students in the fight against top-up fees. We have seen victories in other countries where school students fought back and won. We need to build that success here". Daniel from Portsmouth: "Where does my money go? If the government stopped paying to kill people through war then perhaps it could invest in the future of this country by providing us with free education just like they had! If it's good for them then it's good for us." Jen from Canterbury: "I was at uni for one term and got a loan to make life easier what with how expensive university has become. It's so stupid! Education should be for everyone not just those who can afford it. Over £4,000 to be educated and have somewhere to live? That's got to end." Sean from University of Manchester: "Education should be a right, not a privilege". Archie from North Shropshire: "Keep up the good work and more local demos". As well as students, trade unionists have also signed the petition from Unison, CWU, USDAW, T&G, NUS and the UCU. Students all around the world have sent messages of solidarity to the campaign from India, the United States, the Netherlands and Mexico. > ISR/Socialist Students conferenceSunday March 1810am- 5.30pm.put the date in your diary now!Holloway Resource Centre356 Holloway RoadLondon N7 6PACome along to the ISR and socialist students conference to have your say!
