£84 million penthouse
THE PROPERTY market in London "is awash with money from the City," according to an estate agent selling luxury homes around Hyde Park. You would need to be swimming in cash to afford the £84 million being charged for a 20,000 square foot penthouse or even the £4 million for their comparatively slummy property in the most expensive dwellings ever sold in London.
The average price for a London home recently went over £250,000. Huge salaries and bonuses for City fat cats are distorting the whole housing market towards luxury accommodation. Meanwhile, successive governments have attacked local councils' spending and told them to sell off their council housing stock.
We should fight for a huge building programme of public-sector housing for people who can't afford properties valued in their millions!
