Museum strike in Wales

Alec Thraves spoke to Darren Williams, campaigns officer for PCS in Wales, on the picket line of the Waterfront Museum in Swansea, on 3 April.

"Our members in the National Museums of Wales are taking a one-day strike today, the first strike in their 101 year history, because the majority of staff have been offered a pay rise of between 0% and 2% which is clearly unacceptable.

"Since museum entry was made free a few years ago there has been an increase in the number of visitors. Our members, who are enthusiastic and dedicated to their jobs, just want to be rewarded for the job that they do.

The solid support for the strike today shows how angry our members feel and that is reflected as well with a large presence on picket lines throughout Wales."
