NSSN Conference

Postal workers strike ballot

Postal workers in London are being balloted for strike action over cuts. Royal Mail is imposing a 10% cost saving on all offices in London, which could cost 1,600 jobs. The Communication Workers Union has exposed the fact that these cost savings are not about modernisation but an attempt to cut the number of full-time jobs and to attack terms and conditions generally.

The ballot started on 18 May and will run for two weeks.

Unison witch-hunt hearing postponed

The Unison disciplinary hearings arranged for 20/21 May against four Socialist Party members have been postponed.

Tube workers ballot for action

The transport union RMT is reballoting nearly 10,000 members on London Underground for strike action linking separate disputes on jobs, pay, and disciplinary agreements. The previous ballot was called off after a protest by management. The new ballot will close on 28 May.

Meanwhile workers on the Victoria line are planning to strike for 24 hours from 9pm on 20 May in a dispute over health and safety and bullying management.
