Socialist Party member Martin Powell-Davies is standing for national vice-president of the National Union of Teachers (NUT). Martin is standing on a programme of building national action to cut teachers' workload and also to defend jobs, pay and pensions.

Martin says: "If you want a Vice-President who can speak out boldly for teachers, who can provide clear leadership in the battles ahead, then please give me your vote...

I have been building the union for over 20 years as a classroom teacher, for 16 years also as Lewisham NUT secretary. I am known as a strong speaker and bold campaigner.

"As NUT vice-president I will speak up for teachers, including to the press, radio and TV.

I will help give teachers the confidence to stand firm together to meet the challenges ahead."
