Nationalise the energy giants

THE ENERGY companies are screwing workers by refusing to slash bills, even though wholesale prices have fallen in the last year.

Over the last month alone they've pillaged an extra £100 out of every household budget.

These facts were reported as headlines on the TV news, but for most of us it was akin to hearing that bosses aren't there to look after workers. Tell us some real news!

Of course, Labour's energy minister Ed Miliband didn't declare that this profiteering was the final straw and the government was going to immediately take the entire sector back into public ownership. Instead, he urged the private companies to think about consumers' rights. The energy watchdog Ofgem echoed his whimpering appeal but proposed... nothing!

Anger at the energy and utility companies' behaviour is almost palpable. After banks they're the most hated by ordinary people.

Yet the weak and inept Labour ministers cannot even comprehend that the announcement of a proposal to renationalise British Gas, Scottish Power and the rest of these modern highwaymen would send their poll ratings into the stratosphere.
