Billy Bragg helps raise Exeter Anti-Cuts funds
Socialist Party members and other anti-cuts activists recently helped to organise a fundraising gig in Exeter which featured left-wing singer and guitarist Billy Bragg as its headline act.
It was a great success with the venue full to capacity. Billy Bragg played some of his classic songs and filled the time between songs with anecdotes of previous struggles and a call to arms for the battle against the cuts.
Unfortunately he did sometimes act as an apologist for Labour and their past and present failures. The mood, however, was political with many joining the Exeter Anti-Cuts Alliance.
Over £1,200 was raised for the student group, Exeter Occupation Uncut and the umbrella organisation, Exeter Anti-Cuts Alliance, in which Socialist Party members play a leading role.
The funds raised will be used to continue the campaign against all cuts in public spending. We are planning a local demonstration against Devon county council's slash and burn policies to take place from 2pm on 19 February at County Hall in Exeter.
