“I was very impressed with Socialism 2014. Wasn’t sure what to expect as it was my first one – so interesting and informative. Only wished it could have gone on longer as there were so many sessions I wanted to attend!”

Cathy Taylor, Camden

“We went to Peter Taaffe’s session on Trotskyism in the 21st century. It soon became clear we were not discussing dry theory, but the practical application of Marxist ideas in the struggles of the working class. Our recent successes are the culmination of years of work around the world.

“The rally platform was made up of class fighters, every one. From Seattle to Dublin to Scotland our ideas are finding an echo, democratic socialism is firmly on the agenda. Among the sea of faces were many, many new enthusiasts: a blend of seasoned fighters, and young people seeking answers to the problems of low pay and exploitation.”

Val and Terry Pearce, Bracknell

“I went to the European forum and was impressed by the speaker from Izquierda Unida (United Left). I also attended the discussion on Russia, and bought a copy of Trotsky’s Revolution Betrayed. The discussion I enjoyed the most was on political theatre. It was packed out, and an interesting discussion on theatre and art.”

“Kshama Sawant is an inspiration to us all. Her self-effacing speech gave the credit for incredible achievements in Seattle to everyone who helped her win, including the electorate. I have been suffering from depression for a while but this message of hope really raised my spirits.

“As a retired drama teacher, I particularly enjoyed the session on political theatre. It made me think about how we could use music, comedy and theatre to get the ideas of socialism across and entertain at the same time.”

Lynne S, Newcastle

“Absolutely phenomenal! I heard Care UK strikers speak about austerity’s targeted attacks on women workers. Our struggles are crucial to the trade union movement, which must embrace the battle against austerity and sexism. It was wonderful to have a forum full of radical, socialist and feminist women pushing for this.”
