CWU telecoms oppose Openreach changes

The recent CWU telecoms conference voted to vigorously oppose, with industrial action if necessary, BT Openreach’s plans to concentrate all office-based jobs into just 23 ‘centres of excellence’.

The only two centres of excellence in Scotland will be in Edinburgh and Glasgow, with just one in Wales.

Unfortunately the conference also voted against a proposition to defend the current grading structure, negotiated in 2000, when BT launches a comprehensive grading review. This is likely to result in widespread downgrading although current post holders will probably be unaffected.
