- Three leading staff members have already resigned from the Tory campaign team. The prime minister’s director of communications resigned on 18 April – the day May called the snap election. On 21 April, the end of that week, her press secretary jumped ship. By the start of the next week, 24 April, a senior advisor to the chancellor had gone too. There are plenty more Tory spin doctors where those came from. But it’s not a good start for May’s campaign – while Corbyn begins another round of mass rallies.
- A Tory council candidate in Scotland has confirmed he wants people not to vote for him. Thomas Williamson described his candidacy as a “cock-up” to the Shetland Times. Conservative HQ asked him to stand, but Williamson says he never agreed.
