Anger swells in 'lost generation'

Youth Fight for Jobs will campaign against rocketing youth unemployment

Ian Pattison, Youth Fight for Jobs spokesperson said

"Young people struggling to find work have again been dealt a devastating blow.

"The number of young people that are being denied a job again rose to over 1m. The government needs to look no further than its own failed policies to answer why youth unemployment is so high.

"The public sector cuts and the government's workfare scheme are making things worse. Employers are much less likely to take people on, if they can get free work from young people on the dole, paid for by the government.

"Clearly, the private sector isn't going to give young people jobs. There's plenty of work that needs doing in society, so the government should be creating jobs.

"The government can start by scrapping workfare and other so-called 'employment' schemes, which are no more than forcing young people to work for their dole as cheap slave labour for big business."

"If these predatory companies begin cutting jobs, they should be nationalised, so the economy can be run in a way that provides decent jobs for all young people.

"Youth Fight for Jobs was launched on 2009 in response to rising levels of youth unemployment. We have recently completed the 330 mile Jarrow March for Jobs. We were backed by the Unite, PCS, RMT, CWU, UCU, FBU, Bectu and TSSA trade unions."
