We are told that everyone is equal before the law, and that the rule of law is the hallmark of a civilised society. In practice, the experience of working class people around the world is often very different. In Catalonia the people are denied their right to self-determination in the name of the 'rule of law'. Closer to home we all know that if you steal a pound you get in trouble, but if you steal a million pounds you get a bonus. Why does this happen and what is the law really for?
