Leeds Pride is the biggest free Pride event outside London and is an important place for the Socialist Party to show our support to the LGBTQ community. Our petitions called on the NHS to fund HIV preventative drug PrEP and were met with enthusiasm, particularly from people who currently take the drug but have to pay £400 for it.

While the crowd gathered in remembrance, it was clear that people wanted more than a vigil and were passionate about fighting both LGBT-phobia and the Islamophobia the attack had kicked up.

Annual Pride marches used to be radical, angry protests, aimed at normalising being openly LGBT. While there is still much further to go in reinvigorating and uniting LGBT struggle, this year's Pride march was a small but significant step closer to achieving that.

While there have been steps forward in social attitudes and legal rights, genuine equality remains elusive. The Socialist Party fights for the liberation of all oppressed sexualities and gender identities - and the root cause of oppression and division: capitalism. Two members of the Socialist Party's LGBT group, an acronym we use in the broadest, most inclusive sense, take stock of the fight.
