Leeds Pride is the biggest free Pride event outside London and is an important place for the Socialist Party to show our support to the LGBTQ community. Our petitions called on the NHS to fund HIV preventative drug PrEP and were met with enthusiasm, particularly from people who currently take the drug but have to pay £400 for it.

I've seen an explosion in sales of the Socialist since the EU referendum, I have sold 135 copies! Key to this has been getting out on the streets to talk to people, whether street campaign stalls, at demonstrations or doing our now regular paper sale at the city centre train station before our branch meeting.

Around 250 people gathered at short notice to demonstrate their support for Jeremy Corbyn in Leeds. The demonstration was called by Momentum after discussion with the Socialist Party and others from trade unions and campaigning groups around Leeds. It showed the clear popularity of Corbyn and indeed his electability, despite what those on the right of the Parliamentary Labour Party have argued.

While the crowd gathered in remembrance, it was clear that people wanted more than a vigil and were passionate about fighting both LGBT-phobia and the Islamophobia the attack had kicked up.

On a panel with the Green Party, Liberal Democrats, Ukip and Conservatives, TUSC was the only anti-cuts party. While the Greens often try to put themselves forward as being anti-austerity, their candidate wrongly stated councillors' "hands are tied" over cuts.

Socialist Party and Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition members joined members of the RMT union protesting against this at Leeds station on 1 April. Many remarked on the irony that we'd been campaigning for the franchise to be re-nationalised, but the only nationalisation the Tory government seems to approve is to other state rail operators.
