ISR and Socialist Students' conference - a political voice for young people

COME TO ISR and Socialist Students' conference on Sunday 18 March - put the date in your diary now. This year is set to be a busy year for youth and student activists and socialists with the demo against Trident on 24 February, the battles over the privatisation of the NHS, including a national demo on 3 March, and the anger mounting against tuition fees.

Sarah Sachs-Eldridge, ISR national treasurer

Last year we also saw significant battles in the workplace involving young and often previously unorganised workers. ISR and Socialist Students members across the country are making plans to build effective and fighting campaigns in all areas. We are also looking forward to our conference on Sunday 18 March for the opportunity to get a national overview, meet with like-minded people from around the country and democratically discuss and plan our campaigns.

We will have inspiring speakers such as Jody Long, who helped to organise young agency workers in Cumbria, and Tracey Edwards, who co-ordinates the youth network of the PCS union, one of the fastest growing and most militant unions when it comes to defending members' pay and conditions. We are also set to have a number of lively debates with Wes Streeting, NUS Vice President (Education) and Colin Smith, Respect Students' publicity officer already confirmed.
