Scotland: Tommy Sheridan facing legal battle
Tommy Sheridan and his partner Gail begin their trial on charges of perjury on Monday 4 October at the High Court in Glasgow.
This case, brought by the Scottish Crown Office, follows Tommy Sheridan's famous defamation victory over the Rupert Murdoch owned News of the World in 2006 (see http://www.socialistworld.net /index.php?a=2397).

Over the past four years the police and the Scottish legal establishment have conducted an unprecedented campaign, spending millions of pounds of public money in an effort to bring trumped up charges against Scotland's most prominent socialist.
This trial, due to last for six to eight weeks, is an attempt to inflict a defeat on not just Tommy Sheridan and the socialist movement, but on anyone who is prepared to stand up against the capitalist establishment.
Socialist Party Scotland is asking for messages of support and solidarity for Tommy and Gail to be sent via to info@socialistpartyscotland.org.uk .
These messages will be forwarded to Tommy and Gail.
