Student protests force Lib Dems to cancel conference

While students are preparing for a massive demonstration on Thursday 9th December, the Liberal Democrats have been forced to cancel their London conference today due to student protests which were to take place outside, supported by Socialist Students and Youth Fight for Jobs.

The event was planned to take place at Haverstock School in London. Meanwhile, the government's Lib Dem Business Secretary, Vince Cable, who proposed the fees rise, has confirmed he will vote for tuition fee increases on 9th December.

Cable had earliler claimed he might abstain.

The annual conference of Youth Fight for Jobs is taking place today at the Christopher Ingold Auditorium at the University College London, and the annual conference of Socialist Students will take place tomorrow at the same venue.
