Swansea trades council launches anti-cuts campaign

On Wednesday 21 July delegates to Swansea trades council decided to launch a campaign to defend public sector jobs and the important services that public sector workers provide.

The campaign will aim to bring together public sector trade unionists together with workers in the private sector and everybody interested in fighting to retain important services in their community.

Rob Williams, Linamar UNITE convenor and Swansea trades council assistant secretary said: "Everybody uses public services and the fight to retain these services is a fight for all trade unionists and for the entire community."

The Swansea anti cuts campaign will have its official public launch at a rally on Wednesday 15 September at 7:30pm at the Unitarian Church on High Street, but the campaign starts now.

Ronnie Job, Swansea trades council secretary said: "Supporters of the Swansea Anti Cuts Campaign will be offering our support to all public sector workers facing threats to their jobs and all users of threatened services. We ask everyone who cares about the services we all use to join with us."

Delegates to the trades council already include representatives from most of the main unions representing public sector workers in the area, including: UNISON, PCS, UNITE, CWU.

The trades council extends an invite to all trade unionists, especially those from unaffiliated public sector union branches to attend, as visitors, the trades council's next monthly meeting on 18 August, to assist in planning and building this campaign.
