Meet the Militants!

Meet the Militants at Socialism 2015!

A Socialist Party press release, 3.11.15

Jeremy Corbyn’s election to leader of the Labour Party has shifted the political landscape. The battle for the soul of Labour is the central political event of the current period.
And it will be central to Socialism 2015, an event organised by the Socialist Party, formerly Militant. The weekend (7th & 8th November – in Central London) will bring together former leaders of Militant, long-time and new socialists, trade unionists, students and anti-cuts activists to discuss and debate what needs to be done to fight austerity.

On Sunday afternoon, Momentum director Jon Lansman will debate with Peter Taaffe, Socialist Party general secretary and former member of the Militant editorial board, expelled from Labour.

Later on, at a rally at the Camden Centre, the speakers will include Hannah Sell, Militant supporter and last representative of the youth wing of the Labour Party, the Labour Party Young Socialists, on the Labour Party NEC – removed as part of the clamp down on Militant support and internal democracy.

Also speaking will be Dave Nellist, former Militant Labour MP, famously expelled from the Labour Party, in part due to his refusal to pay the poll tax.

With the scale of George Osborne’s cuts to council budgets seriously biting, Tony Mulhearn, former Liverpool Labour councillor and one of the ‘Liverpool 47’, will be looking at how Liverpool council resisted Thatcher’s cuts in the 1980s and what councillors can and must do now to defeat Cameron and Co’s cuts.

All these speakers will be available for interview or comments across the weekend. Please get in touch if you would like to speak to them.
