Come to Socialism 2006

THE SYSTEM we live under, capitalism, means longer hours, poverty pay
and worsening conditions for most people. In Britain, New Labour’s drive
to maximise their big-business friends’ profits has seen the sell-off
and privatisation of our public services. Capitalism means war, poverty
and exploitation for billions across the globe while a tiny handful at
the top gets richer and richer off our backs.

Greg Maughan

Socialism 2006 is about fighting back. Workers and youth worldwide
are kicking back against this system. From PCS members in the civil
service, fighting to defend jobs and conditions, to young people in
France who defeated prime minister Villepin’s attack on job security;
ordinary people are increasingly standing up to the bosses and
governments that make our lives hell.

Socialism 2006 agenda

If you’re involved in campaigns against cuts and privatisation, if
you’ve been on strike to defend your pay and conditions or if you’re
interested in the socialist alternative to this profit-driven system and
how to get it, then Socialism 2006 is the place to be!

Socialism 2006 adSocialism 2006 will discuss a wide range of issues affecting the
world we live in – from sessions on how to fight back against
privatisation and how to defend manufacturing jobs to big business and
football! You can find out more about the tide of revolt in Venezuela
and Bolivia, as well as other struggles across the globe right now.
We’ll also look back at great workers’ struggles of the past, such as
Britain’s 1926 General Strike, and learn the lessons for today.

Speakers at Socialism 2006 include Tommy Sheridan from Solidarity –
Scotland’s Socialist Movement (see article page 2). If you’re angry
about how the world works and are looking for an alternative, come to
Socialism 2006 to find out about the fightback.

Rally for socialismIf you’re already involved in struggle, Socialism 2006 is the perfect
place to discuss your experiences and learn from others. As one person
put it last year: "Getting together with socialists from all around the
country gives you real hope for the future."

Last year, almost 1,000 workers, students, school students and
community activists descended onto the event and this year looks set to
be even bigger and better. You can make sure it is! Buy your ticket now!
You can get them from Socialism 2006 organisers in your region or order
them on-line.

Once you’ve done that, talk to other Socialist Party members, work
colleagues, friends and family about Socialism 2006 and see if they want
to come.

The ideas and struggles that we’ll discuss at Socialism 2006 are an
inspiration to all workers. They can give a clear framework to the fight
against the exploitation that we all face under capitalism. So make sure
no one misses out!
