Dover docks strikes
Workers employed by Dover Harbour Board (DHB) have announced that they will stage a further three 24-hour strikes next week. This follows a 48-hour strike and another 72-hour strike from 27-30 November.
DHB chief executive Bob Goldfield has refused to negotiate over the outsourcing of almost 200 contracts.
Many of the workers are not prepared to swallow management's line that, if outsourced, their jobs are protected along with terms, conditions and pensions.
It is a really positive step that these workers are prepared to take strike action over outsourcing. Bosses have used this to undermine the living standards of workers for many years.
Workers in Unite have organised demonstrations and pickets, which have been lively and upbeat. They have also been attended by representatives from other ports in England and in France.
