Hull: demo against war on Gaza

Over 300 people gathered in Hull to protest at the continued bombing and blockade of Gaza by Israeli armed forces. Speakers described the horrors and oppression experienced on a daily basis in Gaza.

Nadia Ibrahim, a Palestinian student at Hull University described how every time she attempts to contact her family at home in Gaza, if she does not get a telephone connection she worries whether they have become the latest victims of the bombing.

Between speakers the crowd responded to chants of “Gaza, Gaza, We with You”, and “BBC tell the truth”. Gill Kennett and Dean Kirk, Independent Labour councillors, spoke of their disgust at the scenes in television coverage and condemned David Cameron’s support for the Netanyahu Israeli government.

Phil Culshaw addressed the rally and brought the solidarity of Hull Socialist Party.

The rally then marched through the city centre growing to over 400 before rallying outside the BBC building in Queen’s Gardens to the repeated chants of “BBC tell the truth”!
