Ipswich campaign saves nurses' jobs
FOLLOWING A campaign by the local newspaper, which Ipswich Socialist Party members helped spearhead on behalf of Ipswich Trades Council, the local Primary Care Trust's proposals to axe 31 specialist nurses' jobs have been shelved.

Apparently, additional resources have been found, but no doubt the tremendous response to the campaign and the number of petitions signed over the past two weeks, put enough pressure on the Trust for them to do some extra homework and find the money necessary.
Ipswich Hospital became a national laughing stock recently. Their proposals to cut their £23 million debt included opening up operating theatres for cats and dogs at the weekends! That proposal has also been scrapped amid catcalls and yelps of laughter.
The good news of the nurses' reprieve is a real encouragement to those of us campaigning to retain the NHS and for a united national campaign to save our health service.
