Anti cuts protesters occupy key administration building at Sussex University

Police surround building, messages of solidarity poring in

After a protest of hundreds of students against cuts at the university following months of occupations and protests.

Students have stormed Sussex house - "the home of university management". The university management have called the police who now have a heavy presence on campus. The UCU lecturers union have seperately voted for strike action, with a yes vote of 80%.

Students have taken opposition to the slashing of hundreds of jobs, the closure of university departments and the closure of facilities to the door of the vice chancellors office.

Occupier and Socialist Students activist Claire Laker Mansfield said "we say stop all cuts and defend all jobs at the university, we will continue this protest as long as possible and we will be mobilising for the Socialist Students national day of action as HEFCE announces cuts on March 18 which will see protests in universities across the country".

An occuption has also begun of 100 in UCL. Another at Westminster ended earlier today after breaking up a meeting of the governors board.
