Brazilian Left MP to speak at Socialism 2004
At the beginning of June around a thousand attended a conference to launch a new left party in Brazil – called the Party for Socialism and Liberty (SOL).
Joao Batista (Baba) was an MP of the party that is in government – the
Workers Party (PT) – but has been expelled for opposing the programme of cuts and neo-liberal policies carried out by the
Workers Party government led by Lula.
Baba is a founding member of Party for Socialism and Liberty and will be addressing the opening rally of Socialism 2004.

Today, millions of people across the globe are growing sick of a capitalist system that breeds a never-ending turmoil of war, terror and exploitation.
But is there an alternative?
What forces in society could build a better future?
Could a genuinely socialist world emerge, and what would it be like?
Whether you already consider yourself a Marxist or an
anti-capitalist, or are simply angry about the state of the world we live in, Socialism 2004 is an opportunity to discover more.
Held over the weekend of June 26th and 27th, this event will be packed with discussion and debate across a whole range of topics.
Saturday 26th June 1- 7.30 pm
Sunday 27th June 10 – 4.30pm
